If you’re thinking of booking me as your DJ, here are the questions that come up most often.
Will you just play music, or will you help get our guests involved?
I’m as comfortable on the microphone as I am behind the decks. Between presenting the weekday shows on Radio Essex and playing events round Essex for years, getting your guests involved comes naturally - and I pair that with knowing what to play and when, which is what keeps the atmosphere right.
Have you DJ’d at many weddings?
Yes - around 40 a year at the moment. I’ve been a full-time DJ since 2002, and at a rough count I’m past 500 weddings, or well over 1,000 events once you add the birthdays, corporate dos and public events.
Which venues are you a recommended supplier at?
I’m on the recommended supplier list at Apton Hall in Rochford and The Boundary in Southend, I’ve been on the list at Crondon Park in Stock, and I’m the resident DJ at Chelmsford City Racecourse. I play plenty of other venues round Essex several times a year too, so there’s a fair chance I know yours.
When are you busiest, and do you do weekday weddings?
June is the busiest month by a distance, with weddings, proms and end-of-term parties all landing at once. Saturdays are always the first to go, but I do plenty of Thursdays and Fridays, and a lot of venues discount those days, so it’s worth asking if your Saturday’s already taken. January and February are quiet, if you’re flexible on the date.
How big or small an event will you do?
The smallest wedding I’ve played was 40 guests, and the biggest crowd was 15,000+ at Billericay Fireworks at Lake Meadows, the biggest fireworks event in Essex. I’m happy anywhere in between.
Do you only do weddings?
No. Weddings are most of my Saturdays, but I also do birthday parties, corporate events, proms, festivals and charity nights for the likes of the NHS and Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, where I’m often hosting on the mic as well as playing.
Can we give you a playlist so you can get a feel for our music tastes?
Absolutely. I like it when couples get involved in the planning - tell me what you love and the atmosphere you’re after, and I’ll work the rest round it. You can add songs directly to your playlist through your personal online Planning Portal too, so you can drop favourites in whenever inspiration strikes.
Do you bring your own equipment, or do we need to supply anything?
I bring everything I need - the PA, the lighting, the decks - and I carry spares for the important bits, so if anything lets go it’s sorted between songs rather than after. You don’t need to supply a thing.
